Edna Bonacich is a Professor of Sociology and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Riverside (retired 2006). Her work focuses on social inequality, labor, immigration, sweatshops, and global production. She has an extensive publishing record, including coauthored books on middlemen minorities and immigrant entrepreneurs (with John Modell and Ivan Light, respectively). She has also done extensive research on the garment industry, including for her publications Global Production: The Apparel Industry in the Pacific Rim (1994) as well as Behind the Label (2000) (coauthored with Richard Appelbaum), an award-winning book that examines the Los Angeles garment industry and the resurgence of sweatshop labor.
