Biographical / Historical
Miki Fujimoto worked with marginalized communities for over ten years in immigration, employment, labor, civil and human rights related issues, at local, state, national and international levels. In 1989, while working at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), Fujimoto volunteered with SEIU’s Justice for Janitors, organizing and directing a successful, three month community labor campaign. As a part of her immigration work with MALDEF, she spearheaded a statewide community-labor network dedicated to generating organized labor’s support for the repeal employer sanctions under IRCA (Immigration and Reform Control Act), and integrating labor’s efforts with other immigrant community issues. Fujimoto continued her work with marginalized communities for an additional ten years as an independent consultant under her own business, Strategic Community Partnerships.
